Which Raw Materials and Biomass Sources can be used to generate Energy?

There is too much being spent on fuel and ethanol. The US fuel market is suffering and the consumption of fuel is on it highest level. There is a need to apply a little scientific research and then produce a renewable energy source.

Biomass energy is a renewable energy source derived from biological material from living, or recently living organisms. This includes wood, waste, hydrogen gas and alcohol fuels. Basically biomass is plant matter grown to generate electricity and produce heat. Biomass sources have a more conventional method to produce electricity, yet it still relies on direct incineration. The raw materials that are organic, such as dead trees and branches, yard clippings, wood chips and waste are often used to produce biomass energy.

Biomass resources are not limited to plants or waste

Biomass energy is not limited to plants or waste, however in most cases plant or animal matter can be used for producing chemicals and fibers. Biomass energy can include the use of biodegradable wastes that are burnt as fuel. This completely excludes the use of organic fuels, such as fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are transformed by geological processes, good examples are coal and petroleum.

Biomass sources include all the waste materials which are organic or partially organic. Most common sources used in producing biomass energy are, garbage, wood, waste, landfill gases and alcohol fuels. These are the basic materials to produce energy, so the idea behind it is that everything is recyclable, provided it is organic.

Wood energy is derived from both the direct use of wood as a fuel and waste wood, such as wood chips. The largest biomass resources are of the energy derived from wood.

When the wood is pulping liquor or better known as black liquor, this is a good source of biomass energy. The black liquor is a waste product from the tree's pulp. It is widely used in manufacturing paper and paperboard in the industry. Waste energy is the second largest source for biomass energy. When the fuel is burned, it does not form a lot of greenhouse gasses. The energy is recycled from living organisms or diseased organisms.

The main contributors of biomass resources for energy are waste energy, municipal waste energy, manufacturing waste and landfill gas. Biomass alcohol fuel is made from primarily sugarcane and corn. The best advantage is that the ethanol derived from sugarcane and corn can be used as a fuel or can be added to gasoline. Crops like sugarcane can be fermented to produce fuel for transportation, much like gasoline and diesel. Biodiesel on the other hand is produced from left-over food particles, like vegetable oils and animal fats.

Biomass can be a converted or recycled biomass energy source. The usable energy form is methane gas, ethanol and biodiesel. Methane is basically the main ingredient in natural gas. It is derived from waste, or landfill, agricultural or human waste. Methane gas is commonly called "landfill gas" or "biogas". The gas itself is just as much odorous, since it is made from recycled waste.
